What's Worse Than a Poopie Diaper?

...a poopie diaper while stuck in the church elevator! So the story goes like this: Aaron usually poops on Sundays and Thursdays. Well when he went to bed last night without his usual poop I knew today would bring a challenge since we have been gone since 7:00am and won't be home until later this evening. Since he only goes twice a week, he makes up for it in volume...we prefer to handle this at home! Well he finally did it while I was in Matt's office. We had just finished our luncheon with the senior saints. Matt and everyone else was outside working on a project. I was just getting up to change Aaron when Pastor called and asked me to have the guys change so they would be ready when he arrived back in 10 minutes. I decided it would be quicker for me to find Matt if I used the elevator to navigate the floors. Well, I got on and immediately realized all was not well. The elevator went the wrong direction and then wouldn't open at all. I tried banging, calling, and setting the alarm to no avail (while trying to keep Aaron from getting too upset by all the noise). I finally called the call center button and they were able to get Pastor Chute. In the meantime, Aaron all of a sudden decides he'd like to breastfeed and I'm debating whether to risk the door opening at a very inopportune time. Matt and Pastor got me out in time. We decided it best to not let the senior saints hear of this (and were very thankful it was not one of them who got stuck) for fear of them not feeling safe to continue to use it. So it's a really good thing the church "tale bearer" had already left! So the elevator is fixed, Aaron is changed and fed, the fumes he left in there have subsided--all is calm again. Matt and I immediately chalked it up to my "Smith luck" since I'm the first incident with the elevator!

Just Like Daddy

First Clam Dig

We had a great afternoon during Nathan's visit watching him and Steve clam dig. Matt enjoyed a chance to play designated photographer! Beth got right in there with the guys while Ben played in the sand as Rachel and I enjoyed a chance to chat. Aaron touched ocean water for the first time and also got his first 2 bug bites (we SAW the NOSEEUMS--who came up with that name??).

Fields Make Great Neighbors!

Matt's Green Thumb

I am really enjoying how everything has come to life once again. The pictures don't do it justice. Every year we add a little more landscaping to the yard. Last year we got rid of a bed that was more of a nuisance than an asset and transplanted most of the plants. A couple of years back we had also gotten some shoots from Aaron's Great Grammy. It's so wonderful to see the slow transformation of the yard and to have been able to do it with minimal financial investment. I especially love how quickly the rose bushes filled out. We are slowly adding offshoots to our hill since they spread so well. Matt planted those for me before I moved here so I could always have roses from him. I love that they've grown so well and provide a constant sign of Matt's love for me and in such a sweeter and more creative way than if he had brought me home daily bouquets!!!

Exploring the Backyard

New Discoveries

We love introducing Aaron to new things. This week we took him to our favorite plant nursery to see, smell, and touch so many pretty flowers. I think the employees could tell we are first time parents!

Baby Dedication

Last Sunday we publicly dedicated Aaron at church. Rachel and Steve sang a song that she, to my surprise, wrote to the tune of "Be Thou My Vision." We enjoyed having Aunt Amanda, Grandma, Grandpa, Great Grammy, and Great Grampy up to celebrate with us. Aaron had just recently become acquainted with dogs while visiting over at his "Nanny's" house (our pastor's wife). He loves to watch, touch, and be kissed by them. So having Nugget at our house was a bonus (for Aaron that is...Precious wasn't quite so amused).

Figuring Out Precious

Aaron seems to be noticing that kitty is different from himself...other than an occasional sniff, Precious doesn't seem to care too much one way or the other about engaging with Aaron!

Bathtime, A Family Affair

Aaron loves his bathtime...we're hoping he enjoys the pool as much this summer! Precious was on the countertop overseeing the bathing and I was there taking pictures--apparently there's no privacy policy in this house!

A Warm Spot

Precious' new haircut found her needing the warmth of the fire on those chilly nights!
